Work Opportunities for Rural Kansans

WORKs can provide:
  • Financial assistance for employers to hire and train workers
  • Money for tuition, child care, mileage & books
  • Job placement assistance


What is Work Opportunities for Rural Kansans?

WORKs is a program that helps farmers, ranchers and their families to make a transition from farming and ranching to non-farm employment.

How do I qualify?

  • Farming or ranching is your primary occupation and you intend to make a transition from farming or ranching as your primary occupation
  • The farm has been negatively affected by current economic conditions
  • You must be at least 18 years of age
  • Meet certain financial guidelines

How Can WORKs Help?

  • Help with mileage and child care while you attend classes or look for employment
  • Provide employers with a monetary incentive to hire you for on the job training, so you may earn a salary while learning a new career
  • Help pay for tuition and books for training
  • Assess your skills and strengths
  • Locate jobs in your area
  • Provide assistance in applying for a job
  • We work with colleges, community colleges, truck driving, welding and other skilled trade schools

Where is WORKs available?

WORKs is a statewide program administered by Kansas Legal Services, Inc. and is available through the Topeka administrative office and outreach offices located in Hays, Dodge City and Manhattan.
